Life in Buchman - Jeremy Cardash
When we left Bet Shemesh we had no regrets. The Iriyah had very little regard for the city and apart from the beautiful surrounding scenery, the city had very few facilities and very little potential for our family and many others like us.
One uneasy feeling we had were the dire warnings by our friends in Bet Shemesh and beyond was that there was no sense of community and we would be individuals in large unfriendly city. The Iriyah was on the war path against any dati leumi family planning to encroach on the secular enclave of Modi'in and it would be very difficult to maintain our lifestyle as Modi'in was very expensive city to live in.
So we had much to look forward to. Let me blow some of these fallacies out of the water. The suburb of Buchman has a wonderful mix of secular and national religious Jews (who make up a significant minority).
There is a wonderful sense of community especially among the dati leumi population. Each community has their own bet knesset of sorts, the first permanent bet knesset is yet to be built, which organize many social events.
Yes, there is an large American presence but there is also a significant UK and Commonwealth population.
Buchman is very middle class with many professional people who expect a high class of living. If you want good facilities you have to pay for them. Arnona is higher than Bet Shemesh but then the services are excellent, everything from rubbish collection to two train stations.
Buchman is with easy reach of the Azrieli Mall, the Yishpro Center, the station and many other parks, shops and restaurants. It offers easy access to Tel AViv and Jerusalem without driving through the city and is well located and easy to find.
Modi'in offers a quality of life rarely found in other Israeli cities.
Apart from the excellent facilities it is a young and vibrant city and with flagship suburbs such as Buchman it is no wonder that it is one of the most highly sort after areas south of Tel Aviv.
Lastly and of course most importantly without Michael Blooms help we would never have found our great house!
